Shanghai, 24th July 2013 – ProPak and China BevTek 2013, China’s premier trade exhibitions for processing and packaging technology and liquid engineering closed last Friday 19th July, following three days of business success for participating companies. The show got off to a great start when leaders of 15 Chinese industry associations including food; beverage; brewing; pharmaceutical; daily chemical, packaging and processing joined the show opening ceremony from 8 different provinces of China. The Chinese domestic market dominated this year’s show with more buyers than ever before traveling to the exhibition from provinces all around China.

ProPak and China BevTek 2013 from 17-19 July 2013, was the 19th edition of this annual show in Shanghai and the biggest ever. Occupying 40,105 square metres at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, SNIEC. A total of 633 companies participated from 26 countries and regions, including country pavilions from Germany; Japan; Korea; UK; USA and new pavilions from France and Italy. The largest contingent of exhibitors, 65% came from China and representing the leading manufacturers and suppliers of packaging and processing technology in the country. For visitors, a total of 17,951 buyers attended in search of the latest processing and packaging technology, for all industries from food, beverages, dairy, confectionary/snacks, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, FMCG goods, electronics and industrial manufacturing.

Analysis of the visitor report after the show revealed that the majority of visitors, not surprisingly came from Shanghai, 45%, however, this was down from last year when 52% attended from Shanghai. The big change in 2013 was the dramatic increase in visitors attending from provinces of China outside of Shanghai. This year 43% of total visitors or 7,700 buyers representing 1,634 more customers than in 2012, traveled by bus, train and airplane to attend ProPak China 2013.

“ Any CEO; Factory and Purchasing Manager or Trader that spends time and money to travel to Shanghai to visit Propak and China BevTek, is serious and a potential customer worth meeting. We are pleased to see such a big increase in Chinese visitors, from provinces outside Shanghai attend this year, it really proves the best customers will travel to the most important exhibition” commented Brendan Jennings, General Manager of the show organiser China International Exhibitions.

These facts were echoed by both international and Chinese exhibitors in the exhibition who were delighted to meet new and existing customers from all over China and in many cases received significant orders during the show.

“ Excellent participation. We achieved sales of EURO 2.5 million for our plastic extrusion technology. Very satisfied with the quality and quantity of customers we met from all over China” Barra Naciri, CEO, ERMP, France.

ProPak China 2013 visitor patterns reflect the trends in the Chinese domestic market including the shift in manufacturing for 2nd tier cities; rising costs of labour and demand for faster, safer and more economical technology.

International buyers continue to be an important feature of ProPak and China BevTek particularly for Chinese companies keen to sell to the lucrative overseas markets. A total of 2,244 overseas buyers attended this year from 81 countries representing 12% of the total visitors. In addition visitor delegations with groups of 10 or more visited from Korea, India, Mongolia, Thailand and Peru.

“ ProPak is the best exhibition in China for the packaging industry, we always meet many international customers and this year even more Chinese customers. I am already planning my stand for ProPak China 2014”

Madam Feng Ha Wen, Managing Director, Shanghai Soontrue Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd

This year, ProPak China and China BevTek hosted a range of industry conferences, with speakers presenting to capacity audiences and in many cases additional seating had to be brought in to accommodate the demand. Subjects covered “trends of processing technology for soft drinks”; “medical packaging materials” organised by the Shanghai Food & Drug Administration; a series of beverage industry presentations by the Shanghai Beverage Association. For the sixth year running, the China Food Industry Association, Brewing Committee selected China BevTek to host their Annual General Meeting and Brewing Technology forum alongside the exhibition.
