Popularity of Opal apple continues to grow

Going into its fourth year of commercial production, the Opal apple, which is grown by Broetje Orchards and marketed by First Fruits of Washington, is likely to enjoy another year of enthusiastic buyers.

We're probably up about 35 percent in production from last year for the Opal, said Andy Tudor, marketing director for First Fruits. Production is also expected to go up next year due to new plantings. The increased production is necessary because of the demand for the variety. Tudor noted th
