The European Union has created a definitive list of food flavourings approved for use in food manufacturing across the EU, banning seven flavourings in the process. Heidi Vella profiles these banned flavourings and finds out how the industry has received these new rulings.

Since 2003 the European Commission (EC), along with the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), has been evaluating the safety of thousands of food flavouring substances.
