Kroger discontinues sale of sprouts

American retailer Kroger has decided that it will no longer sell sprouts due to its potential food safety risk and to protect the consumers from food-borne illnesses.

The supply of sprouts into distribution centers and stores will be discontinued on 23 October 2012 by Kroger.

Kroger food safety vice president Payton Pruett remarked that after a science-based review, they have decided to voluntarily discontinue the sale of fresh sprouts.
