Scientists from the University of Michigan in the US found that injecting an artificial boost of the brain chemical (opiod) enkephalin into the neostriatum area of the brain in rats, stimulated overconsumption of MM candies.
The study, published online in Current Biology, found that the release of this brain chemical caused rats to consume up to 5% of their bodyweight in MMs more than double regular consumption levels.
This equates to a 68kg human consuming around 3.6kg in one hour, researche
