Sainsbury's has claimed the accolade of selling the most UK-grown apples and pears over the past year.
Beating its nearest rival by more than 6,000 tonnes, Sainsburys sold 40,216 tonnes of UK apples and pears during the 2011-12 season, which ran from August 2011 to June 2012. According to trade body English Apples Pears, this equates to a market share of 30.6%.
Tesco was next, selling 34,106 tonnes to claim a market share of 26%. Morrisons and Asda were ranked third and fourth respectively.
