Cutting salt could save 6,000 lives a year in Australia, National Heart Foundation says

Eating too much salt can cause high blood pressure (also known as hypertension), which is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.


The Foundation is also part of the Federal Governments Food and Health Dialogue, which aims to make processed foods healthier by, for example, reducing the amount of salt in food categories such as bread, soups, sauces and savoury pies.


As a result of the Dialogues work in Australias bread sector alone, around 1,000 tonnes of salt is being removed
