Singapore vegetable prices soar as monsoon season arrives early

The monsoon season has caused prices of some vegetables in Singapore to rise by 70 percent and even triple for at least one type, according to importers of fruits and vegetables. The rainy season has arrived a month early in Malaysia.

The Penang Island Vegetable Wholesalers Association said prices of chives have doubled, while vegetable sellers in Chinatown Market and wholesaler Thygrace Marketing say Chinese cabbage prices rose from $2 to more than $3. Water spinach went up to $3 or $4 from $2
