Gov urged to boost self-sufficiency of British food

The Government is being called on to help achieve greater self-sufficiency and ensure a supply of home-grown food for shoppers.

The calls from the National Farmers Union (NFU) follow new figures which reported that put the UKs self-sufficiency at 61%.

The calls came on 11 August, the day the country would notionally have run out of food if we had only eaten British food from 1 January 2019.

The NFUs ambition is for British farming to produce more food for a growing population while at the sam
