A beer which is believed to be the first featuring Australian-farmed seaweed has been developed by scientists from University of the Sunshine Coast (UCS).
Dr Nick Paul, UCS Professor of Aquaculture, partnered with Newstead Brewing co. in Brisbane to brew a beer with sea lettuce from Moreton Bay.
Now, Dr Paul is hoping the beer called Moreton Brae Resalinated Gose will drive an interest in seaweed as a nutritious, tasty and locally-grown resource.
Seaweed is a rapidly-growing resource, so we
