Salmonella outbreaks in many EU countries are associated with infant formula

According to the European Food Safety Agency, 32 cases of Salmonella serotype Poona infection in infants and young children were found in France (30 cases), Belgium (1 case) and Luxembourg (1 case).

According to multilocus sequence analysis of the core genome, 32 patients were infected with the same pathogenic strain. All patients developed symptoms between August 2018 and February 2019 and consumed one of three rice-based infant formula foods of the same brand. This infant formula product was
