The USDA has named the Spotted Lanternfly one of the worst invasive bug species in the last 150 years. The originally Asian species is invading the native plants in Winchester, Virginia. The Lanternfly is attracted to grape vines, apple trees and peach trees.
The USDA and the Virginia Department of Agriculture are working together to try to eradicate it before it spreads to people like us, who have crops and things like that, said Katherine Solenberger, owner of the Homestead Farm at Fruit Hill
