Meat firm reports soaring sales as Tour de France hits Yorkshire

The company said the amount of sausages and burgers it was supplying to hotels and restaurants had increased rapidly as visitors flooded into Yorkshire for the first two stages of the historic bicycle race.

Jonathan Carter, general manager of Yorkshire Dales Meat Company, said: We were expecting an uptake in sales in and around the Tour de France weekend, but sales have rocketed.

Kitchens that we just usually supply with a relatively low number of burgers are now buying them in vast quantities
