Soybean maturity at 11%; condition erodes slightly

The U.S.D.A. said 54% of the crop was in good-to-excellent condition as of Sept. 8, down from 56% the previous week but up from 22% in the drought year of 2012. A total of 17% of the 2013 crop was rated very poor to poor, up a percentage point from the previous week.

A total of 5% of the new hard red winter wheat crop in the 18 major states was planted in the week ended Sept. 8, the U.S.D.A. said, equal to the five-year average for the date.
