Japan buys 175,277 tonnes food wheat via weekly tender

Japan's Ministry of Agriculturebought a total of 175,277 tonnes of food wheat from the UnitedStates, Canada and Australia in a weekly tender that closed onThursday.

In Japan, the world's sixth-biggest wheat importer, theministry keeps a tight grip on imports of the second mostimportant grain after rice to protect consumers from pricevolatility and to maintain local production, which accounts forabout 10 percent of domestic wheat demand.
