Corn silking 16% as of July 14 vs. 35% five-year average

Silking in the 18 main corn-growing states advanced to 16% as of July 14, up from 10% the previous week, but still lagged significantly behind the five-year average of 35%, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its most recent Crop Progress report.

The condition of the crop declined modestly to 66% good to excellent, down from 68% in the previous week. The percentage of the crop in very poor to poor condition moved up to 9% as of July 14, up from 8% the previous week, the U.S.D.A. said.
