The Dairy Freedom Act, that does not have a supply management program, costs $15 million less than the Dairy Security Act now in the Farm Bill. While the Dairy Freedom Act does ask larger producers to pay higher premiums, it offers free catastrophic insurance and charges lower premiums for farms with fewer than 200 cows, and eliminates annual fees for all producers. Over 90 percent of all dairy farmers will pay less for margin insurance under the Dairy Freedom Act.
