Components in walnuts cut cardiovascular disease risk

Eating whole walnuts or their extracted oil can reduce cardiovascular risk through a mechanism other than simply lowering cholesterol, according to a new study published online in the Journal of Nutrition. The findings suggest alpha-linolenic acid, gamma-tocopherol and phytosterols found in walnuts may explain the positive effects of the walnut oil treatment.
