US: Diageo files lawsuit over alleged Crown Royal 'confusion'

Diageo has launched a lawsuit that accuses a rival of copying the packaging of its Crown Royal Canadian whisky brand.

In a statement, Diageo said it believes Texas distributor Mexcor is trying to confuse consumers into thinking that its Canadian whisky products are Crown Royal line extensions by packaging them in copycat drawstring bags. The global drinks firm also alleges that by using 'Crown' or 'Crown Club' in their product names Mexcor is attempting to mislead people.
