SABMiller’s organic beer demand frozen by Chinese winter

SABMiller Tuesday said an exceptionally cold and wet winter in China meant its organic beer volumes in the Asian powerhouse fell 3%, causing demand in the Asia Pacific region to decline and its overall global performance to slow.

China, as befits the worlds most populous nation, is vital in volumes terms for the brewers. It is the worlds largest beer market, far ahead of the U.S., with almost a quarter of all global beer consumption, according to Bernstein Securities data.
