US brings in new livestock traceability ruling

The final rule for Animal Disease Traceability, announced by the US Department of Agricultures Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), requires livestock moved interstate to be officially identified, either by a certificate of veterinary inspection or other documentation, such as brand registrations and owner-shipper statements.

It includes several changes from the initial proposed rule, issued in August 2011, which were made following consultation with industry stakeholders. These
